Sometimes the problem with being missional is the church focusses on their neighbor and forgets about Jesus. This idea of being “missional” is popular with the new churches that are coming out, especially those affiliated with the Acts 29 Network. This Christmas weekend take note of the announcement of one of the local “Kaleo” (Greek for “to call”) churches in San Diego here.
Sunday, December 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.: We will worship our Lord by serving Mark Twain High School. We will paint, clean and mend chairs, and do general cleanup. Lunch will be provided at noon.
Now usually no one is complaining about serving your neighbor. However, to take a line from the movie Dirty Dancing “No one puts Jesus in the corner…”. That’s exactly what the bride of Christ has done here. Forgetting that he does not come to be served but to serve.
Matt 20:28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
The church leadership has failed their congregation because these Christians need to hear from God, they need to feed on Jesus, then in turn they can serve their neighbor. The church has it backward. We don’t come to church to serve the Lord. We come to church to be served. The table is set. The host has prepared a meal for his children. Matt 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
